Cyber clans and competitive gaming are
interesting subjects. Computer gaming is not recognised as a sport,
but represents a massive target group. I believe that competitive
gaming will become just as commercial as other sports in the future,
and may develop in a similar way as extreme sports have done in
recent times. Even now a few gamers can earn a salary everyone would
be proud of.
One frustrating factor about competitive gaming is the fact that
there are cheats for every popular computer game. This makes it
nearly impossible to create an honest challenge of skill, both individual
and team. For this reason, commercial gaming will always be in danger,
unless the companies producing games do their best to counter the
cheating community. Only LANs will seperate the men from the boys.
The true challenge of any clan is to determine how competitive it
would like to be. If you want to be the best, then you have to have
as much discipline and possess enough talent (both physically and
mentally), as is required to be the best in any other sport. If
your clan doesn't possess enough talent or is not prepared to prepare
sufficiently, then you'd better no set your goals too high, and
accept that sky is not the limit. The most important thing, as with
any sport, is to have fun.
